Abstract

The article deals with the presented in the exposition of the National Museum of Ukrainian History objects of fine metallic plastics of ancient times – medallion-amulet of the “kosmadamian” type. The copper medallion-amulet from the Ovruch region is of particular interest. It differs from all known examples of ancient Rus medallion-amulets: size, iconography, epigraphy, art stylistics. The identical amulet is not known, so there are many questions in the study of the artifact. Attention is paid to the problem of attribution of this subject, as well as the consideration of the “кosmadamian” iconographic type and the evolution of the “snake” composition on the items of the аncient Rus time.
