SMALL ARMS FROM THE PERIOD OF THE UKRAINIAN WAR OF INDEPENDENCE (1917– 1921) FROM THE NMUH COLLECTION
Abstract
The content of the small arms collection (late 19th – early 20th century) from the National Museum of Ukrainian History (NMUH) was analyzed with the purpose of determination of weaponry from the times of World War One. Ukrainian armies at the period of Ukrainian War of Independence (1917–1921) predominantly exploited Russian, German, and Austro-Hungarian armaments. It was uncovered, that in the museum collection “Weapons and Munitions” appeared numerous examples of small arms, which could have been used by participants of different military units from the period of the Ukrainian War of Independence. These museum objects could take place in the renewed exposition, which should tell about the Ukrainian War of Independence. In addition, they could be frequently displayed at exhibitions devoted to the same historical period.
