APPLICATION OF X-RAY METHODOLOGY IN RESEARCH OF POORLY PRESERVED ARCHAEOLOGICAL METAL
Abstract
Aggressive soil environment often leads to severe destruction of archaeological metal finds. The x-ray method of analysis, being applied to the objects from Kyiv Podil’s excavations and NKPHCP collections, has significantly clarified not only the restoration task but also the research one, revealed shapes, decoration and manufacture-method of the objects found. The most valuable information is a Latin inscription on the both sides of the 12th century blade sword from the Spaska excavation.
