ARCHIMANDRITE PORFYRII USPENSKYI’S PERSONAL COLLECTION OF ICONS
Abstract
The article analyses the history of Byzantine icons from Bogdan and Varvara Khanenko Museum of Art. These unique icons of wax painting technique belonged formerly to the Archimandrite Porfyrii Uspenskyi’s personal collection. After his death, the collection was transferred at first to the Church Archaeological Museum at the Kiev Theological Academy, and in 1940 four icons were moved to the Kyiv Museum of Western and Oriental Art that preserved them from destruction.
