THE ARTIST OPANAS ROKACHEVSKYI’S WORKS FROM THE COLLECTION OF FINE ARTS OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF UKRAINIAN HISTORY
Abstract
In the article, Opanas Rokachevskyi’s paintings from the funds of the National Museum of Ukrainian History are attributed and introduced. New facts of the artist’s biography are illucidated. One of the non-attributed portraits of the fine arts collection of the museum is brought to light, representing the merchant of the First Guild and Honorable Citizen of Kyiv, Mykhailo Dehtiariov. Due to the revealed signature on the painting, the authorship of the known artist of academical movement Opanas Rokachevsky is established. Another landscape scene with his signature is also stored in the collection. The images of these works are published for the first time. On the basis of the found archival sources, the unknown episodes of the artist’s “Kyivan” period activity, in particular as a teacher of painting, drawing, and lithography, are also demonstrated.
