Abstract

The article aims to bring into scientific use two previousely unpublished findings of helmets segments of “Čorna Mohyla” type, held in the National Museum of Ukrainian History and the National Military Historical Museum of Ukraine. Due to the absence of archaeological context, dating of these findings clearly is impossible, therefore these subjects are compared to similar armour. By comparison with other helmets of “Čorna Mohyla” type and their parts, and consideration of possibilities of distribution of this type of helmets in Central and Eastern Europe in the 9th and 10th Centuries, the assumptions about their production on the territory of the Khazar Khanate and imports to the Middle Dnieper region within the second quarter of the tenth century is made.
