O. MENSHIKOV’S ROLE IN KYIV DEVELOPMENT DURING THE FIRST QUARTER 18TH CENTURY (BASED ON THE NATIONAL KYIV-PECHERSK HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL PRESERVE MONUMENTS EXAMPLE)
Abstract
The article is devoted to the activities of Russian statesman O. Menshykov in Kyiv from 1706 to 1720. Carrying out the orders of Peter I, he chose the place for the construction of fortifications and was occupied with the renewal of the city defense system according to the European model. An interesting and poorly understood fact in Menshikov’s biography is that he was involved in the restoration of Kyiv-Pechersk monastery after the fire in 1718.
