THE LIFE AND WORK OF ETHNOGRAPHER A. I. ONYSHCHUK AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF UKRAINIAN HISTORY’S ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTION FORMATION
Abstract
The article investigates the ethnographic collection from the funds of the National Museum of Ukrainian History, which was collected in 1920–1930s by Antin Ivanovich Onyshchuk, an employee of Taras Shevchenko All-Ukrainian Historical Museum (now the National Museum of Ukrainian History), in the context of his life and activities as an ethnographer and scholar. The article considers the ways of arrival of Onischuk’s Ethnographic Collection to the NMUH, the origin of A. I. Onischuk and his family, ethnographic and teaching activity of Onyshchuk, his participation in the World War I and the struggle for the liberation of Ukraine, his relations with D. Shcherbakivskyi, Soviet repressions against the scholar and today’s state of the discovery of his ethnographic collection in the NMUH.
