Abstract

The purpose of the publication is to broaden the source base for the study of the history of the predecessors of the National Museum of Ukrainian History in the first quarter of the twentieth century. The documents used by the State Archives of the Kyiv region were little known for researchers, some of them were discovered for the first time. Among the latter there are the questionnaires of the museum’s employees, filled in by them in the 1920s, which allows not only to consider the staffing of the institution, but also to introduce elements of personification into the general presentation of the material. These and other documents: official reports, accounts, correspondence, tariff information, etc. allowed to reveal and analyze the directions and conditions of the museum’s functioning, its material and physical condition, the ways of forming museum collections, the role of M. Belyashivsky and D. Shcherbakivsky in preserving the legacy of historical memories. Particular attention is paid to the evacuation and re-evacuation of museum values and to the withdrawal of church relics in the 20’s of the 20th century.

Key words: Kyiv Museum of Antiquities and Arts; Kyiv City Art, Industrial and Science Museum; First State Museum; M. Belyashivskyi; D. Shcherbakivskyi; evacuation; re-evacuation; withdrawal of museum and church values.
