PARKS OF SOCIALIST REALISTIC MONUMENTS: MUSEUM MANAGEMENT ASPECT
Abstract
The article reviews sculpture parks which represent the totalitarian era in Ukraine and abroad: Memento Park in Budapest (Hungary), Grutas Park in Grutas (Lithuania), Museum of Socialist Art in Sofia (Bulgaria), Museon Art Park in Moscow (Russia), and park-museum “Monuments of Socialist Realism” in Frumushika-Nova village, Tarutyn district, Odessa region (Ukraine). The analysis of park-museums as museum institutions, which typologically belong to open-air museums, was conducted. Based on the substantive activities of the latter, the author suggests that parks of Soviet sculpture could be classified as complex museums, the specialization of which should be defined by two disciplines: history and the theory of art.
Key words: sculpture park, museum, open-air museum, museum typology, museum profile, socialist realism, totalitarianism
