Abstract

In this article the author deals with the complicated confrontation of Ukrainian dissidents with the Communist–Soviet system in the 1960-1980s. Punitive and repressive organs used the arsenal of methods and means against the dissents. The most cynical methods were to threaten the sensual sphere of human life. In order to affect the opponents, they jeopardized the well-being, safety, health or even life of the dissidents’ beloved ones. Based on the respondents’ oral testimonies, the most common and typical tool of the KGB pressure on the families, primarily children, is revealed (educational and career development barriers, use of propaganda and fear to form an opinion in the surroundings). The families’ steadfastness to the repressions is also emphasized.

Key words: Ukrainian dissidents.
