Abstract

The article describes the policy of the Bolshevik authorities regarding the rich peasantry in Cherkasy region in the 1930s. The problem of the ‘kurkuls’ as a class is considered, i.e. the reasons and the course of the repressions and their consequences. This study is based on the archival materials of the regional archive and local archives of the intelligence services. The main sources are the state institutions’ documents and the archival and criminal cases on individual peasants. Nevertheless, a significant set of materials remains unexplored with future prospects of studying, especially the case of the deportation of “kurkuls” from Cherkasy region out of Ukraine. The results of the work will constitute separate articles as well as the creation of the exhibition complex in the hall of the Cherkasy regional history of the 1930s in the exhibition of Cherkasy Regional Museum of Local Lore.
