The article describes the policy of the Bolshevik authorities regarding the rich peasantry in Cherkasy region in the 1930s. The problem of the ‘kurkuls’ as a class is considered, i.e. the reasons and the course of the repressions and their consequences. This study is based on the archival materials of the regional archive and local archives of the intelligence services. The main sources are the state institutions’ documents and the archival and criminal cases on individual peasants.
