MONEY CIRCULATION IN THE LANDS OF UKRAINE DURING 14TH – 16TH CENTURIES (ACCORDING TO ANALYSIS OF THE TREASURIES FROM THE NMUH COLLECTION)
Abstract
The article analyzes the treasures from the NMUH collection dated by 14th–16th centuries. The author studied about 20 finds: Sosnytsia, 1911(Chernihiv region), Kytaevo, 1924 (Kyiv), Hvizdiv, 1876 (Kyiv region), Borshchiv, 1948 (Kyiv region), Tarascha 1897(Kyiv region), Cherkasy, 1895, Stara Buda, 1863 (Cherkasy region), Wasylycia, 1921 Cherkasy region), Krasne, 1891(Rivne region), Brozyne, 1958 (Zhytomyr region), Zakutyntsi, 1883 (Zhytomyr region), Hrinnyky, 1897 (Rivne region), Kam’yanetskyi povit, 1839, Radomyshl, 1929 (Zhytomyr region), Tarasovychi, 1928 (Kyiv region), Liskonohy, 1929 (Chernihiv region), Berezan, 1957 (Kyiv region), Kyiv, 1860 (Starodubtseva’s mansion), Basyhino, 1888 310 (Chernihiv region). The article gives quantitative and qualitative descriptions of money circulation within Ukrainian lands due to the study of treasures’ composition and topography. Treasures that include the Western European, Golden Hord, Rus and Moscow coins are emphasized. Besides, the author focuses on the treasures consist of the local minted coins. They are considered as the best illustration of historical events in Ukraine, having been commented from the money market and trade relations perspective.
