A CAUCASIAN SHASHKA OF THE LATE 19TH – THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF UKRAINIAN HISTORY AND THE FATE OF ITS OWNER
Abstract
This weapon study and biographical article is devoted to the Caucasian shashka of the late 19th – the beginning of the 20th century and the fate of its owner – Hryhoriy Khymenko. He was an organizer of the Ukrainian community on the Caucasus Front in the city of Trapezund. He received this weapon as a gift from members of the society. An active participant in the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921, he remained on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR. He was engaged in scientific work and communist party activities. The shashka got into the collection of the Central Historical Museum in the interwar period.
