KYIVAN ARCHPRIEST MODEST ZALESKYI’S ‘EVERYDAY NOTES’ FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE NATIONAL MUZEUM OF UKRAINIAN HISTORY

Abstract

The collection of manuscripts of the National Museum of Ukrainian History stores the large scroll – everyday notes, written by Kyivan Shchekavytsia priest Modest Zaleskyi’s (c. a. 1807–1880).This study gives the general description of the given source. The study clarifies the biographical data of the author, who served in the cemetery church from 1845.
The handwritten book contains about 800 names; it is a source for the reconstruction of the Podolian necropolis and separate biographical data on the Lower Town’s inhabitants. The manuscript also records astronomical, hydrometeorological data, facts from the Kyivan life of the 19th century (including church events); points out the important facts, to which the average representative of the city clergy paid attention.
