KYIVAN PODOLIAN PARISH OF SAINT BASIL IN THE FIRST HALF OF EIGHTEENTH CENTURY

Abstract

The history of Kyivan parishes and parochial life is insufficiently developed at present. A community of Kyivan Pololian St. Basil church is one of the under-explored. St. Basil temple burned in 1811 and did not restore after. However its parish was one of the largest in Kyiv at the early modern time. This essay following on from the analysis of act sources deals with a short history of church building, holy vessels (there were one or even two miracle-working icons in the temple), size of St. Basil parish and its sources of funding (rental income payments kunytsia) as well as social structure of its parishioners.
