SEALS OF UKRAINIAN TOWNS IN SPHRAGISTIC COLLECTION OF WITOLD ZHURAKOWSKI (FUNDS OF NATIONAL MUSEUM IN WARSAW)

Abstract

Seals of ten Ukrainian towns in Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (17th–18th centuries) are analyzing in the report. Specimens of these seals are kept in sphragictic collection of Witold Zhurakowski (funds of National Museum in Warsaw, Republic of Poland). Analyzed collection of seals is valuable source of Ukrainian municipal heraldry in early modern period. This collection clearly illustrates main tendencies of development and thematical features of Ukrainian heraldry. Some of these artifacts are elaborated in Ukrainian scientific practice for the first time. They can be used for elaboration of modern heraldic symbols for Ukrainian towns.
